Who We Are: Wide Open Road is a small company run by keen cyclists. We are based in England but organise tours in Europe and Australia. We specialise in moderately priced trips designed to use some of the most scenic roads available to a cyclist. The company is operated by Andrew Rowland and the tours are staffed by volunteers.

What We Do: Generally our holidays operate with groups of between 10 and 40 cyclists. We usually utilise a mixture of hotels and camping on our tours. We meticulously research our trips and design a route that is ideal for any cyclist who can comfortably cycle around 90 kilometres or 55 miles per day.

How Our Tours Work: We arrange a meeting point for the start of the tour. Usually this will be the first hotel included in the tour. Participants make their own arrangements for getting to the start.

We arrange the route and a support crew to look after you along the way. We book all the accommodation and arrange some group meals for some of the evenings. The support arrangements consist of a luggage van, an on-road mechanic and a "sag wagon". Usually we have a crew of four or five people.

To keep our tours affordable, we generally include mainly camping on our trips. You provide your own tent and we carry it in our luggage van along with any other possessions that you don't need during the day. When we are camping there is usually a catering marquee at each campsite. This marquee is where we serve breakfasts and afternoon teas.

With your luggage loaded in our van you are free to cycle off following our detailed route notes and referring to our maps. On some tours we even signpost the route with arrows to make your cycling easier. We provide all your breakfasts and usually an afternoon tea at the end of each day's riding.

Our Customers: We have had the pleasure of welcoming participants along on our trips from various nationalities. On our last tour we had people from Britain, Australia, Ireland, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and America amongst our group. Our trips are aimed at any cyclist who enjoys cycling without the burden of luggage, on a well organised route. If you love cycling, can cope with camping and think that you are fit enough to cover the distance then you will be most welcome!

Where We Go Now: In 2007 we have planned cycling holidays in France, and Italy.

FRANCE: Our cycling holidays in France include trips from Bordeaux to the Alps, and a week of cycling in the Alps. The Bordeaux-Alps bike ride across France travels through some very scenic and historic parts of France and finishes at Alpe d'Huez. The trip is timed to coincide with the arrival of the Tour De France stages in the Alps. The week of cycling in the Alps tour is a week in a beautiful chalet in the heart of the Alps with access to many of the famous climbs in the region and a chance to watch stages of the Tour De France.

ITALY: A cycling holiday from Rome to Nice via the Islands of Sardinia and Corsica gives varied cycling across islands with stunning Medeterainian views.

NEW FOR 2007: A tour of the Dolomites with hotel and villa accomodations and routes through the heart of the Dolomites riding some of the famous climbs of the Giro D'Italia.
