THE DAYS
Days One and Two are spent amongst the vineyards and the wine country. We ride through the Entre Deux Mers vineyards and finish at historic St Émilion (83kms or 51m). In a picturesque setting we enjoy our first group meal. The next day we are in the Bergerac and Monbazillac wine regions on our longest day heading towards the attractive village of Limeuil (110kms or 69m). We are now close to the Dordogne river with many fine castles around us.
Day Three has an optional short day Day Two was the longest of the trip and today there are numerous opportunities to rest your legs as we head to the sensational town of Sarlat. Depending on the route you choose, the distance is between 55kms and 100kms or 34m and 62m. You buy your own evening meal in Sarlat.
Days Four, Five and Six provide an opportunity to visit the pilgrim towns of Rocamadour and Conques. During the three days we have moved away from the banks of the River Dordogne and are now in the valley of the Lot. We stay at St Céré (88kms or 55m), Conques(82kms or 51m) and St Geniez d'Olt (82kms or 51m). Group meals are provided in all three locations.
Days Seven and Eight take us along the Tarn Gorges, across the Cevennes mountains and into Provence. Spectacular riding every day and overnight stops in Florac (97kms or 61m) and Anduze (67kms or 42m). Both nights you feed yourselves.
On Day Nine we are on the road through Provencal villages to the historic papal city of Avignon (90kms or 56m). Here you feed yourselves.
Day Ten puts us truly into Provence. The day has two different routes. An easier route taking in the city of Orange with it's Roman amphitheatre and a harder route giving the silly amongst us the chance to climb Mont Ventoux. The choice is yours! We spend the night close to Vaison la Romaine (69kms or 43m) where you feed yourselves.
On Days Eleven and Twelve we make the move away from Provence and into the French Alps. We climb the mountain pass the Col de Menée and have overnight stops at Menglon (90kms or 56m) and Les Egats (75kms or 47m). Both nights the meal is a group meal.
Day Thirteen. The only way is up! After 12 days of riding your legs should be fit enough to take this on. We're in the mountains properly now and the route takes us over the Col d'Ornon and then up the famous 21 hairpins of l'Alpe d'Huez (56kms or 35m). A celebratory meal at our l'Alpe d'Huez hotel is included.
Day Fourteen. Well that's the riding over with and all that remains is a day of rest in l'Alpe d'Huez followed by an afternoon bus transfer to our hotel in Grenoble. At Grenoble you feed yourself.
